Have you ever wished you could reconnect with long lost friends from your 20s or 30s just to discover how life impacted them and what they’ve learned?
Wicker Chair Wisdom Circles is designed to do just that. Using the zoom platform, biweekly or monthly get togethers provide an opportunity to share the wisdom your life experience has taught you.
How does it work? You compile a list of 5-8 friends you want to reconnect with. Working with Stephanie, you create an email invitation that explains the purpose of the wisdom circle and details how it will work. You or your group select the book you want to read together, usually one chapter/zoom session. Stephanie will facilitate your group, gently keeping everyone on track.
What is a session like? Meetings usually are no longer than 1 1/2 hours. They begin with each person sharing their BIG moment (i.e. an experience of Beauty, Inspiration, or Gratitude) since the previous meeting. Then the discussion moves to the material that has been read. Sharing is focused on the questions of 1) What grabbed your attention? Why? 2) How does it relate to your life experiences? 3) What ideas annoyed or disturbed you? Why? 4) What idea do you need to ponder further? Focusing on questions such as these allows each woman an opportunity to share her life story and the wisdom she has gained from it.
You can select your own book for discussion or we can offer some suggestions. Books we have used in the past include Krista Tippett’s Becoming Wise, Robin Wall Kimmerer’s Braiding Sweetgrass, Parker Palmer’s On the Brink of Everything, Kaya Oakes’ The Defiant Middle, and Tish Harrison Warren’s Prayer in the Night. Each person is asked to donate a nominal participation fee which is based on the number of sessions needed to cover a particular book (usually $5-$10/book).
